Time Zone

  • Zurich is in the Central European Time (CET) zone during the winter months (UTC +1) and switches to Central European Summer Time (CEST) (UTC +2) during daylight saving time, which starts in March and ends in October.

Currency

  • The official currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF).
  • Currency Exchange services are available at banks, currency exchange offices, and airports. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted.
  • ATMs are available throughout Zurich and often offer good exchange rates.

Electricity

  • Voltage: The standard voltage is 230 V, and the frequency is 50 Hz.
  • Plugs: Switzerland uses Type C and Type J plugs. The Type C plug has two round prongs, and the Type J plug has three round prongs  (Type C 2-pin plugs also fit J sockets). It’s recommended to bring an adapter if your devices use a different plug type.

Weather

  • Zurich has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons: Winter, spring, summer and autumn. In Summer (June-August) Switzerland has pleasant weather conditions, with temperatures averaging between 17°C to 25°C (63°F to 77°F), but occasional heat waves can push temperatures above 30°C (86°F).

Language

  • The main language spoken in Zurich is German, specifically Swiss German. However, English is widely spoken, especially in business and tourism settings.

  • Zurich has an extensive and reliable public transportation system, including trams, buses, and trains. Tickets can be purchased at stations or via mobile apps.
