Biography

Xianfeng Ma is currently a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at Tongji University, Shanghai, China. He was educated at Tongji University (1989-2000) with a BSc (Civil Engineering, 1993) and PhD (Structural Engineering, 2000), and went to Osaka City University, Tokushima University, Japan for academic exchange (1997-1999). He worked as Assistant Professor at Tokushima University From 1999 to 2002, and then joined Geo-Research Institute in Osaka before he came back China as a lecturer at Tongji University in 2003. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge from 2008 to 2009. Currently he serves as the director of centrifuge modelling laboratory at Tongji University. Prof. Ma dedicates himself in the fields of centrifuge modelling in geotechnics, seismic analysis of underground structure, underground construction in soft soils etc. He published more than 150 refereed journal and conference papers and was granted 10 patents. He received more than 10 prizes of provincial level of Scientific and Technological Progress Awards varying from first to third grades. Prof. Ma participated in more than 20 research projects relating to some key projects in China such as Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau cross sea project, cross Yangtz River tunnels, underground metro network in Shanghai etc. He is also very actively engaged in international academic activities, i.e., working as chief editor for international academic journal and giving keynote lectures on serial international conferences in his research fields.
