The International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) is the leading professional body representing the interests and activities of Engineers, Academics and Contractors worldwide, who actively participate in geotechnical engineering. With 90 Member Societies and 21,000 individual members from around the globe, ISSMGE serves as the hub for geotechnical engineering professionals.
The Technical Committee 104 (TC104) plays a vital role in advancing knowledge and practice in the field of physical modelling in geotechnical engineering. Through establishing working groups, TC104 facilitates the sharing of resources for teaching, research, and the dissemination of physical modelling in geotechnical engineering.
The ICMPG constitutes the biggest gathering of the physical modelling community, offering a forum for academics, engineers, researchers, technicians and students, where the latest developments in modelling techniques, technologies, similitude laws, and all other aspects of physical modelling in geotechnics can be discussed. Following preliminary workshops in Manchester, California and Tokyo (all in 1984), the 1st International Conference (Centrifuge 88) was initiated in Paris in 1988, under the leadership of Prof. Jean-François Corté. It was initially scheduled every 3 years, and since 1994 it has been taking place every 4 years. The 11th ICPMG follows a series of very successful such events, with the latest being the 10th ICPMG, which was held in Daejoon, South Korea, jointly organized by KAIST and K-water Research.
