Conference Tour 1

Conference Tour 1, 12 June 2026 – Spitallamm Dam, Grimsel

We invite participants of the ICPMG 2026 to join the conference tour 1 to the Spitallamm Dam, Grimsel, Switzerland, a double-curved arch dam. The tour can be booked upon registration at the cost of CHF 150. The number of participants is limited to 150.

Please note that we reserve the right to change the program, if the Grimsel Pass is closed due to adverse weather conditions! In the unlikely event that this occurs, a suitable alternative visit will be arranged.

The Spitallamm dam is one of two dams on Lake Grimsel. The water stored in it is essential for electricity production at the Oberhasli power stations. The Spitallamm dam was over 90 years old and in need of renovation. Instead of renovating the old dam, Kraftwerke Oberhasli KWO (Oberhasli power stations) began building a new one directly in front of it in June 2019. The replacement dam, with an impressive maximum height of 113 m and a crest length of 212 m, was completed in 2025.

The conference tour is a guided visit to both the old and new dam walls, offering impressive views as well as fascinating insights into the construction and water management of the Grimsel Lake.
